Default sunman's turbo build

Figured since I am about a week out from finishing up the kit, I'd start a thread of my build and progress.

Firstly, I want to thank PTUNING for engineering such a great bolt-on kit. I've really noticed and appreciated all their attention to the finest details through this install. More importantly, I am very impressed by their great customer service, dealing with all my issues throughout this long, expensive process. Everyone there has been great and I am glad that I chose to go with their turbo kit.

I also want to thank Minitoyota, dales2000 and my buddy EternalLx for all their advice and guidance throughout this whole process.

By now, the PTUNING kit is nothing new -- seems like everyone is going with it these days and for good reason. Personally, I wanted a kit that could be bolt on with little or no modification/relocation needed. I didn't want a top mounted manifold due to the turbo placement and any potential heat issues. I also wanted to keep the power band as linear as I could in keeping with the nature of the car (and actually ordered a SOS SC first during their group buy.) The PTUNING kit had everything I was looking for, low bottom mounted turbo placement, v-band connections for every flange, no relocation required and a super linear power band. At the time of my decision, EternalLx (some of you may know him ) was finishing up his build and after seeing his kit (and the numbers that he made), I was sold.

So the building and planning began:
-PTUNING GTX3076R turbo kit with open dump
-PTUNING optional oil cooler
-Hondata KPRO w/ all the MY06+ sensors
-Injector Dynamics 1000cc with PNP clips
-Full Blown 340 LPH fuel pump
-Invidia Q300 70mm single or Greddy SE 70mm single (I want the car to be QUIET, still making a decision on this... any suggestions?)
-PLX Devices DM-100 multigauge with A/F, oil pressure, oil temp sensors
-ScienceOfSpeed Single Pillar Pod
-ScienceOfSpeed Sport Clutch with OEM AP1 Flywheel
-ScienceOfSpeed large throttle body
-ATP inconel heat wrap for the manifold

I know, the clutch choice is questionable -- but I was apprehensive about going with the ACT and wanted a light pedal feel. We'll see if she holds the tq on the dyno.

Onto the pics:

Arrival of the kit.. you can see the downpipe on the bottom in the picture. Notice how it's almost a straight pipe, allows the turbo to spool super quickly:

Comes with EVERYTHING (bov, wastegate, new manifold gasket, manifold, couplers, clamps, vband clamps):

They even supply a new radiator fan to move more air. Oil pump and new motor mount is also included:

Closeups of the manifold, excellent fit and finish and great welds:
Notice all the connections are vband! No studs or nuts to deal with!

SOS clutch arrived:

PLX gauges/sensors needing to be installed soon:

I installed the Full Blown 340 fuel pump, but they sent me the wrong fuel sock so the car was down for a week while the new one came in:

OEM pump next to Full Blown pump:

full blown pump wired in and installed, ready to go into the car:

Also went up to Minitoyota's place and installed the KPRO and all the sensors.

installing the cam/crank sensors needed for the kpro (As well as brand new valve cover!!):

routing the wiring harness from the kpro into the cabin for the new cam and crank sensors. We later loomed and wrapped these wires up so it looks OEM:

this past weekend, I did the SOS throttle body (basically just the OEM unit bored to 70mm):

New gasket and SOS TB:

comparison.. OEM on the left, SOS on the right.. you can see where the walls were bored out:

Old TB, in the process of removing it:

After taking the old TB off I was left with this disaster. The old gasket was basically glued/seized onto the manifold and I spent a good few hours chiseling and cleaning it off:

Finally off and ready for new gasket and TB!

Also ordered an omnipower 4 BAR MAP sensor to read boost, which I installed at the same time as the TB:

Final shot of installed TB (you can see the new map on the top):

Later that same night, my buddy EternalLx came down and helped me install a good amount of the PTuning kit. BIG thanks to him.. it was definitely a huge help having someone who has done it before.

We did the oil cooler, oil pump for the oil return system, a few of the oil lines, the new slim radiator fan that sounds like a jet engine , intercooler brackets and wired up power to the oil pump and radiator fan:

shot of the thermostat for the oil cooler in the middle and the oil cooler on the right:

what it looks like with the bumper on:

shot of the cooler from above:

slim radiator fan installed (removed the OEM twin fans):

radiator fan and oil cooler wired up:

tonight I had some free time so I mounted the intercooler core. I just wanted to show how detailed and well engineered this turbo kit is. So far every single piece fits perfectly and is well designed. They even included this tiny rubber hose and made a note to install it over the AC line to prevent any rubbing:

shot of the core:

oil pump mounted to the left:

shot of the oil cooler behind the intercooler or interFOOLER for now:

so this is where we are at now. Final completion of the kit is scheduled for this Sunday at Minitoyota's place. I did also upgrade to the GTX3076 so the turbo is due to come in tomorrow.

Here's how she sits now:

Awesome, Look forward to seeing your build come together, I plan on going with the same kit down the road, a couple questions though. Why did you choose the KPRO over the Flashpro? Also did you consider the Ptuning exhaust? From what I have read it is very quiet.

MY05 and earlier dont have the option of getting flashpro.
Ptuning exhaust is kinda quiet for a full 3-inch dual exhaust but its not nearly as quiet as the 70mm dual options he is looking at.
