Default Supercharged and BOV theory

So I know that a bov on a supercharged setup is prettymuch pointless because the sc unit wont spin backwards.

and knowing that every time you shift, the BOV releases the intake charge air which leaves the intake/aftercooler with prettymuch very low air pressure and when you get into the next gear and go WOT again there is a split second where the air needs to travel through everything before it gets to the throttle again.

I was thinking, If you ditch the BOV, every time your WOT through the gears you will have a nice pressurized charge air waiting right behind the TB.

I started thinking about this after I did a few runs with my buddies lotus esprit v8tt.
you can see in the videos that every time I shift I loose about 1/2 a car length.

Do I sound crazy? or does this make sence?

I've seen guys destroy their throttle bodies by not having an escape for the pressure that slams the closed butterfly. This is more pronounced as the boost is increased.

So are you saying its not safe at all to run no bov?

time for more boost bob hahaha

i can say that, as far as you losing that 1/2 each time you shift.

with the s/c you make the most power at redline.

so lets say... when your toward that peak 414whp. but as soon as you shift, your down to about 320hp at 7k rpms. thats where the other car starts doing the pulling.

but to answer your question, its safest to run with the bov, all that built pressure needs to go somewhere.

call up mike and he can help you out with your question

Man that vbox looks really cool! Dead Zero is right about the whp. That lotus pulls like a Z06. 8 seconds from 60-120mph is movin. You are going to need closer to 500whp to hang with him.

The problem with any turbo or supercharger compressor is not the danger of it spinning backwards, but the danger of surge; the pressure ratio of a compressor increases drastically when the throttle is closed at high rpm. This surge can cause excessive charge temperatures, blow couplers off piping, damage throttle bodies (as above), and even break blades off of the compressor wheel.

So no, not safe to run without some type of diverter valve

the other car is just plain Faster... you probably loose everytime you shift since your gear changes dont match..he is still WOT when you change and its natural he pulls and when he changes he is already in front of you and pulling so you probably dont
if you dont want to have a BOV just change gears without Letting go of the TB... SLAM the GAS (dont let go) and just push the clutch to change..)

I think bob means recirculate the bov to the intake versus venting it to the atmosphere. I have been thinking of doing this for quite some time it makes perfect sense.
