Default Supercharged exhaust options

I recently supercharged my MY04 with the new Kraftwerks kit. I expected to need a larger exhaust as there was so much more air flowing through the engine. I bought an Invidia Q300 as some members had said it was fairly quiet, and was the only 70mm dual I could find that fit my budget. Mine is paired with a 70mm Berk HFC and stock header.

For me, it has some MAJOR drone in the 3-3.5k range, so much that I'm ready to take it off. I've seen other guys say it doesn't drone very much, but they are NA applications. I'm just about ready to go back to the stock exhaust, as I've seen some impressive S/C numbers on stock exhaust systems - way better than I expected. Otherwise I may have a shop fab an identical Helmholz onto my Q300 and see if that helps. I will possibly replace the Q300's resonator with the Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator.

So there's a few questions I'm trying to answer with HARD DATA. Anyone that has personal experience with any of the below, I'd really appreciate your response

1) Did you have an exhaust setup that didn't drone (much or at all) while NA, but when you boosted it got worse? I'm trying to determine if the added airflow/load changes drone characteristics.

2) Has anyone swapped to/from stock to aftermarket exhaust while s/c'd, and what kind of change in power (dyno or butt) did you see? I'm happy with the stock exhaust if I don't lose more than a few HP.

3) Does the stock exhaust drone more once the s/c is added? Is the stock Helmholz still the correct size for s/c'd engine?

To contribute, please be thorough in explaining your setup - s/c type, boost/power level, header/cat/exhaust parts. I'd do more testing myself, but it's far too cold to take the car out.

Single 3" will always make more power.

This is what I was trying to avoid in this thread... Do you have your own data to prove it? How much more power?

There is a guy on here with 500whp s/c going through the stock, unmodified exhaust on just a slightly larger blower than mine (at more PSI though). Clearly the OEM exhaust has pretty good capability.

Would you say there is much gain/loss between the OEM & Fujitsubo at your power level?

Probably not...as it's exactly the same size as OEM... I would think that the only difference is in the mufflers.

Glad you asked. Actually i do have proof, and first hand experience.

While yes, the stock exhaust does flow well, but a 3" single will always make more power. So if you can make 500whp on the stock exhaust, without switching anything other than the exhaust system, i'll bet you make more whp.

^^^Correct me if I'm wrong, but after reading your thread it certainly seems like your extra power really came from a fuel pump upgrade. I really don't think that you'll see much from a larger exhaust (S/C'd) until you are really making a lot more power...upwards of 500-600whp. Just my thoughts. ...different story though on a K-series...
