Supercharger
Hi All,
I'm thinking about installing a supercharger on my 2000 S2K. I have read and read and read many post regarding this topic, but most seem to be from many years ago, how about an update 2015 is right around the corner..
So my main concern is SMOG, given that I live in Orange County CA. I don't like the idea of installing an EMS, such as AEM EMS, because I don't want to go through the headache when smog comes around. Do I need to have an EMS when my Vortech Supercharger is installed? The only way I would have an EMS is if I can swap it out with the stock ECU when smog comes around, or is there something else I can do when smog is needed? I understand that an EMS is important for tuning, but is there one that can save my butt during smog or swapping the EMS with the stock ECU?
I was going to go all NA bolts ons: intake, header, exhaust, etc, but that would not have given me much HP.
I'm not trying to be all track racer, but I do want some good increase in HP as my s2k is a daily driver, so I felt that a super charger would do the job. I'd be happy with the standard 6.5 psi if that is going to keep me smog legal, like I mentioned earlier I just want to have an increase and at the same time be smog legal. I know Vortech is Smog legal in Cali, also Greddy and there is one other supercharger that is smog legal I just can't remeber the name.
Lastly, are there other additions or modifications to the engine when inStalling a supercharger?
Please advice and lead me in the right direction. Being in Cali and wantng to upgrade to a supercharger is very frustrating and at times hopeless simPly because of smog.
I don't think I'm the only one going through this dilemma of smog and supercharger, So if there is anyone out there in the S2k community that can give me and others like me advise, words of wisdom, and knowledge I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank You All,

Thank You All,
Maybe if you run the supercharger on Hondata EMS you won't need to switch everything for SMOG. Not sure, cuz I'm running a Vortech and AEM v2 EMS and had to swap my injectors, ECU, MAP, and air pump for my SMOG. Worked though!
Thank you for your input hvAlfaWant_S2000, that’s much appreciated.
If you don’t mind I’m a little curious about your swaps.
-In respect to your injectors, you installed upgraded injectors for Vortech Supercharger purposes, correct? Those upgraded injectors were not smog legal?
-Your ECU was replaced with an AEM V2 EMS, but for smog purposes, you installed the stock ECU. Did you have to reprogram the AEM V2 ECU after you installed it back in after smog check? Or was it an easy swap in and out from AEM ECU to Stock ECU without having to program it? In addition, here in So Cal, SMOG Technician plug into your car’s OBD2 connector to check if anything has been tampered with. How long before your smog check did you swap ECU's (AEMv2 EMS to Stock ECU smog purposes)? I understand that if you swap it the day before you take in for smog, SMOG Tech will detect it and fail you. Does the swap need to happen months or weeks before smog check in order for stock ECU to adjust and be undetectable to SMOG Tech?
-MAP, is that done no matter what? And how is that put back to stock for smog purposes?
-Air Pump, same question, upgraded air pump you used was not smog legal? Did you install the stock air pump for smog purposes?
I apologize for all these questions, I just want to be smog legal, at the same time I’m down for the Vortech Supercharger install only if I can swap things out for smog purposes and swap them back in without any hassle.
Again, thank you for your time and advice.
