Supercharger drivability question
Thank you!!!! That is the point I've been making every time someone is stuck between a turbo and S/C. Next time I need to just copy and paste this post so I don't have to type as much.lol. I keep hearing about this throttle response but then again how well can a S/C S hang with a T/C S. Someone posted it in the daily comments on the right of the forum you see each day and I laughed because of how true it was. Having a supercharger is cool to say but having a turbo actually means your S is fast.
Not trying to fight with anyone if you have a supercharger and love it great. I just wish all the new guys to FI would take a ride in a turbo S before buying a S/C.

The ONLY benefit of a centrifigal supercharger over a turbo is that a super charger has much less engine bay heat. There are no other advantages.

No one is denying a turbo S t the same boost level is faster than a SC S. However as everyone has said but for some reason you don't understand the turbo will not have nearly as good response as the sc car. Which many like for spirited driving. The turbo will pull real hard but the sc on a tight winding mountain I think is much more fun!
You have a base sc kit probably putting down under 300hp. Once you step up to 400-450 hp sc the car becomes fast. There is always someone else faster but that will be a fast car regardless. I have pulled on a single big turbo S4, turbo 350Z, C6 corvette etc in my SC'd S2000.
No one whose gotten a ride in my car has not said it felt extremely fast.

I'm interested, enlighten me on the pros of having a centrifugal S/C? What are they? It doesn't produce as much heat and better throttle response. Please don't throw out maintenance because I'll jump all over that. I would love to see a S/C S against an EVO with the green turbo. We'll even say the same power level. Once he comes out of that corner it's bye bye S on the straights.
Ive had both setups making ~420whp. Besides reliability issues turbo was superior in every way for a street driven car.
In general the heat causes turbo have more things go than a sc. Also they make more power down low which is a plus but at the cost of sacrificing some reliability as well.
A turbo setup can be quite reliable as a select few have shown on here but over all you will see at least 10 times more people with turbo having stuff break or blow etc compared to SC. Again mostly due to heat, cheap parts and the added power down low as well as people pushing the limits.
SC can be pretty much a bolt on and forget about it setup which is nice. It all depends what you want out of the car. I've loved having 400whp sc as a daily for about 55k miles now without an issue.

At the end of the day to each his own. My plans are to keep the S for awhile and build a highway queen that I want. I tried the twisty and turnys out here in HI and just seems unsafe coming around a blind turn and not knowing what debris is in the road. Not for me and once I head back to FL I'll enjoy my pulls on the highway even though that's not much safer.LOL
Mod I'll post up a video that was the turning point from wanting to hold on to my kit and getting the most power out of it to go with a T/C. It's a race with two S both at around 400whp. The t/c S starts off in third and still pulls like a MF on the S/C when it starts in second gear. I'll post once I get off since I'm on a government computer.
Yeah I've seen that video. Without a doubt the turbo as long as not a tiny one like greddy quite a bit faster. I've thought of going turbo many times and have the money to do it right no problem. Just hard to replace something that has worked so perfectly for me. Love to drive the crap out of my car without ever worrying about anything.
I do plan to get a lot more midrange with my sc to make the power feel a little similar to a turbo though. Tiny pulley and tial wastegate should help out the midrange!
I think I'm buying a TL Type S soon as a daily driver so then I might think about turbo but I have a feeling I would put a V8 in the car before doing that to really get a nice powerband!
