Default Supercharger Question

I am ready to re-upgrade my02. In 2005, I bought a Comptech CAI only to remove it the next year. Earlier this month I was going to sell the vehicle in order to make way for a new vehicle but realized, I can keep the S and get another vehicle! The power of money! Haha

Now I am ready to upgrade - I want to buy a supercharger and I am leaning towards a Comptech. My question is how much can I expect someone to charge me to put the charger on the vehicle?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Oh, is Comptech still a good charger?

Install could be a lot at a shop! Like up to $700 or so I would think. Pretty easy install yourself however if you are at all mechanically inclined. If you take it to a local member or something to do would think only a few hundred to do the install. Takes a few hours for the most part.
Comptech is good. I would pick SOS over that however. I currently have Vortech and love it however.

SOS or KW are your best bets.

I chose KW.

I agree with all of the above. Post up in your local forum and see if anyone there has experience and will help. Or, talk your local club members into a "tech day". Sometimes we enjoy getting together to help each other turn wrenches, and SC install might fall into that category.

I installed the SOS kit on my AP1 a couple weeks ago. It wasn't as super easy as everyone makes it sound, but it was easier than the Greddy kit install. Just make sure you have a torque wrench and all the right sockets to use to tighten things to spec. I was surprised to discover that I didn't have all the tools already (I needed allen head bits to use with the torque wrench), but a quick run to Home Depot fixed that. Oh, and I cheated by paying a local shop to swap out the crank pulley. That's something to consider doing. Also, if you are swapping injectors or the fuel pump, there are write-ups here on S2KI that are worth finding and reading first. (So you'll know how to do it before you start.)

I just got the SOS kit, and will be installing it myself. I was also leaning toward Comptech before, but it uses an older model blower unit, and the SOS kit is cheaper and easier to install...from what I hear. It's also $4,695 if you buy it this month.

I don't know if I speak for the others on here, but really, if you're going got get FI on the S2000, it's probably something you should at least know how to install yourself, unless you're just oozing money and can pay for that kind of labor. Many here CAN pay for that labor, myself included, but wish to do it ourselves because we actually LIKE to do it. That, and you don't get taken to the cleaners or pay someone to do a job and they turn out to be a hack (there are plenty of those in the import community). NEway, from what I hear it's a ~10 hour job, so expect at least $700-$1000 depending on the labor rate. Really, the hardest parts are going to be the pulley and installing the fuel pump (tight fit). Most of the rest is pretty straightforward.

I'm not insinuating that you don't know how to do it or anything, so don't take it that way Perhaps pay someone to swap the pulley and/or the fuel pump, and try the rest yourself or with a friend/local member?

Torque Obsessed, just out of curiosity, is a torque wrench that does 24 lb-ft enough? I have 20-240 in-lb wrench now. Been meaning to get a 1/2" drive larger one, but not sure if I need to. I plan to not cheat and swap the pulley with a friend (got the tools and everything)...we'll see how that goes

24 lb-ft won't be enough. EDIT: The crank pulley bolts are 192 lb-ft. Some of the smaller stuff was only supposed to be tightened to 7 or 9 lb-ft, but the four big silver allen-head bolts holding the SC to the main bracket were 43 lb-ft. That's where I got caught - I had to buy allen-head sockets in order to use the torque wrench to tighten those and also the two small silver allen head bolts near the main pulley. Home Depot has a set of allen head bits for like $12 that includes what you'll need. (The SOS kit stuff is standard, not metric.) EDIT: The SOS kit hardware is metric.

I agree with steven975 - I install my own stuff partly to save cash, but mostly because it's so much fun. I'm not very good at working with my hands, but I really enjoy turning wrenches. I bought this car (new, in 2003) specifically to mod it, and taking it apart never gets old.

Are the bolts & nuts standard too?
I have most tools in metric & standard, but not the little stuff like allen heads.
