Default Supercharging my 2001 S2000 (Vortech)

I have been told that the Vortech fuel management system is not the best way to go and can have problems on a regular basis. Should I consider something else? (Greddy EManage?) With the Vortech, is tapping the oil pan required? Keep in mind, this will be a car I drive 10k miles a year and needs to be reliable and driveable. Thanks in advance.

Huh? Anything CAN problems. Nothing is perfect. Thats like saying the earth is round, its obvious. If your saying the Vortech fuel management unit is problematic and prone to breakdown ... then you have been misinformed. Tons of people have been driving their Vortech'd S2000s for years without problems.

But there are better alternatives out there in terms of performance and fuel delivery. Which is why I just bought an AEM EMS. But it's not because of problems with Vortech.

Yes you must tap the oil pan.

No need to get defensive or sarcastic. I am simply asking. I just want to ensure that I have, for the most part a problem free setup.

I ran the stock vortech setup for 25,000 miles without any fuel management problems. You should not have a problem. Upping the boost (from the stock vortech kit) requires larger injectors that necessitates a fuel management system that can drive the larger injectors.

You do need to tap the oil pan when installing the vortech sc.

my vortech was fun on a stock motor and stock exhaust, just an upgraded clutch to handle the extra power! i have had no problems and it's been on the car for about 15k

little bit of lag below 3k but once you get up to about 4k the rpms climb quick

I was told that if you go with a E-manage or any other (piggyback) ECU you can get a smoother powerband (proven) and slightly better gas mileage (dont quote me on this). ANybody have experience with this ?

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to address that post. I bought a Vortech SC and had it professionally installed not long after this original post. Within 3000 miles of that install (only mod on the car) my motor ran lean and had to be built. It 100% was because of the Vortech FMU/Black Box. I think that kit has great potential, but ANY buyer should purchase a piggy back, or better standalone EMS. It's been said many times before that the unit has trouble at higher RPM but back then I was unable to find any info on this. Oh well, it led me to building a more extreme car anyway.

wow!! this is an old thread. I bolted my Vortech on a week before you made this thread. shes still running strong.

I do have an emanage ultimate installed. I didn't like the Vortech balckbox much, I would have issues starting her up once in a while.
