I have heard the same from more than one person, it seems like it may have to do with where you are and how often you are past vtec. Not to mention some kits/cars may be better than others. I've def heard a lot of people with my story (maybe not so fast) as well.

Using e-manage vs. Vortech's FMU, is the car no longer able to pass emissions? That may be a deal breaker, for some.

e-manage should be ok, EMS is not. At least here.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to address that post. I bought a Vortech SC and had it professionally installed not long after this original post. Within 3000 miles of that install (only mod on the car) my motor ran lean and had to be built. It 100% was because of the Vortech FMU/Black Box. I think that kit has great potential, but ANY buyer should purchase a piggy back, or better standalone EMS. It's been said many times before that the unit has trouble at higher RPM but back then I was unable to find any info on this. Oh well, it led me to building a more extreme car anyway.
I ran my Comptech ESM (Comptech's version of the FMU) with a VAFC 2 and 440cc injectors with great success. It's a less expensive route to go and will keep you OB2 compliant.

That being said, I have just about finished tuning my AEM EMS and I am extremely pleased with the product. My car literally drives smoother than stock with a decent kick in the pants.

Getting around emissions is not difficult. Remove your belt, install the stock ecu, and drive around for a day or two and head to emissions.
