Thumbs up Surface temps on my turbo manifold

I have had some issues with heat coatings on my Full-Race manifold cracking/blistering. I've had the manifold coated twice by a company called HPC and the coating failed both times. I recently had the the manifold re-coated by a local company and it is starting to fail as well. So, today I used a pyrometer and measured the outside surface temperatures of each runner while at idle. Here are the results:

Runner #1 - 505 deg F
Runner #2 - 540 deg F
Runner #3 - 550 deg F
Runner #4 - 560 deg F

I've already had runner #4 tapped for my Defi EGT gauge, but I haven't had the gauge hooked up as of yet so I am unable to measure the EGTs within the runner itself. Any guesses as to what the internal EGTs are while at idle?

If that held true, there is no way the 2000 degree coating should fail, correct? It really seems like I am simply getting a poor quality coating and that my EGTs are actually ok.

I highly doubt your manifold is touching 2000

I am in the process of filing a claim with HPC. I wasted about $400 with them.

As do I...even under WOT for prolonged periods.

Either way, within a few months I am going to remove the turbo system and send the turbo manifold and turbo to Jet-Hot for their Jet-Hot 2000 coating (good up to 2400 degrees). This is going to cost me about $500 for their coating (both parts), plus labor to remove/re-install the turbo, but I want to be done with this crap.

The car will actually run much hotter at highway speeds then it would WOT for long times.

Even with that said, I've NEVER seen my EGT gauge go past ~1320F and that was at 85mph on the highway. During WOT I stay between 1100-1200 degrees, nothing more

Sounds like the coating is a peice of sh*t

I hear what you are saying.

Full-Race is supposed to provide me with expected EGTs for their manifold. Hopefully I will get my EGT gauge hooked up soon!
