I saw the writeup for the tct replacement. I have never done this myself. Can a semi-noob do this without screwing it up? And 2nd question (and I assume its a yes), is this a severe enough problem where I shouldn't drive 60 miles to a friends garage where I can work on it?

I vote tct too. I hate to say it but when I rebuilt my whole engine, I put a new tct on the car.... sadly that one went out in 800 miles and I had to replace it. The new one has lasted me 10k miles. These txt's are just luck of the draw I think..... also you might want to check out the little springs that sit inside your head under the rocker assembly. Idk the name for them but mine went out as well and I had to replace them bc all of the intake side springs were worn out. Just something else to check into that's cheap and easy to fix before u tear down ur engine

I don't see why you couldn't limp it over there. If you are worried, tow it. Cost ya 30-60 bucks and you won't have to worry about it.
Thanks for all your help guys,
Josh

Tct is the winner.
You better start using some good oil.
