Default Thermostat Temp & Cooling

I have the car in pieces still and while I waited on the intake manifold to come back from coating I was thinking about replacing the thermostat. In the past I would pull the 190F stat and put in either a 160 or 180 but it seems that the factory stat was set to open at 170F. With my new turbo setup I want to keep things cool and was planning on turning on the fans a bit sooner than stock and changing the T-Stat to do what I was planning.

Can anyone verify the temperature for the t-stat?

Any other suggestions?

See the link in my sig for the build log.

I just ordered a new stock thermostat and it says 78*C on it. Thats about 172*, so yea basically 170. I am not wasting money on some spoon or mugen thermostat that is the same thing and costs 100 dollars. I picked up a new thermostat 172*, new radiatior cap, and thermostat gasket for like 40 bucks, spoon would want like 150. Rediculous.

i wanna add something here. if you are runing standalone, you can control teh fans. i have mine come on all the time, you can set them to whatever you want.

i have stock rad, stock thermostat. with fans on all the time, i sit at 180-185 in stop go traffic. on the highway, 180 solid. and this is in south florida where it is always 85+outside. screw aftermarket thermo, just have the fans stay on and it will keep everything in check. if you are worried about cold starts and engine warming up, it still warms up quick. since the therm stays closed until 170. the fans on just keep car at good temp all the time, instead of letting car fluctuate from 190-205 constantly in stop go driving.

and the stock fans flow!
