Do you want boost at 3k rpm? That will affect your mileage pretty bad I imagine. The S2k cruises at over 3k rpms.
From experience I can tell you that the ~4000-4500 spoolup of the gt3076 (.82ar) I used in my previous car was very useable for anything. Very pleasant daily driver aswell. Downshift and instant power, cruising out of boost is nice in my book.

However if you really know what you are looking for and have experience on the subject, sure go for a turbo that spools at 3k. Be sure that the overall performance of the car will not be as good as a more well rounded setup.

There are really no rights or wrongs if you know what you are getting.

I was going to do that turbo when my greddy went out on me. But my goal was to do the HG and turn up the boost so I went with the gt3076 .82 ar. Mine is internally WG'ed and runs off the T25 flange. But you can get a used greddy kit and change out the turbo after the fact if you want.
