Default Time to ask about 700whp and the tranny.

Hi all,

Time to think about the tranny. Everything with the car is going great. Should have the block and head back soon and will need to look into the tranny next. Who or where is good parts or tranny for this kind of power. My stock tranny is currently good and all other supporting mods have been done so this is just about the tranny.

thanks
Chris

Honestly, if I was shooting for a full on drag S2000 with over 600 whp, I would probably try to swap a GM automatic...

I am expecting well over 700whp on c16. The block will be good for 35psi and then some. It is the rest of the car that I am looking into handling that kind of power.

PPG gears are shit
I've them on my s2k and skylines and they broke too often

The owner is a dickhead to deal with and provided zero warranty on faulty parts.

Thats not good news. I was planning on using them soon. Oh well, back to my original plan of cryo treating the stock set.

Sorry for the bad new Fred.

I had so much headache with PPG last year and I would not wish it on my worst enemy. The PP gears feel great with street, circuit and drag driving but the metallergy is not strong enough for high power engine. I've seen too many failures from mid to high power engine from owners who know how to operate the box competently.

how about try running an ap2 trans and see how it does, since the gears are all a tad wider, and latest sync designs. it seems to work quite well. i know several who have snapped ap1 trans with just over 500 wheel. id like to see you run an ap2 trans honestly. not to mention the fact that the companion flanges have larger bolts. im sure that couldnt hurt. next is gonna be custom mainshafts etc. the need is increasing, it shouldnt be long before some of the gear companies step up. lates dave
