Bracing seems like a wise move, though the biggest bang for your buck is apparently to have a flex section in the downpipe. There are several people here who feel that the primary cause of cracked manifolds is that the engine moves but the exhaust mostly doesn't, thus placing stresses on the manifold.

I like riceball777's brace. Great idea!
