Traction advice
Thank you greg for your input and thanks Matt I was also looking into nt01 as my next choice after r888s. Nt05 are awesome street tires but don't think there sticky enough for my intentions. What's the fun of a 500hp s2000 when your not be childish with it
, in all seriousness I drive the car I don't pussyfoot it but I do know the difference between that and suicide. Btw Matt big John says whatsup

I'm a pro class motocross racer, 22 years of karting experience as well, honestly I can push with Travis Pastrana and give him track advice when he asks for advice on how to keep up with me *true story and I've his cell phone number and email*. Yet...... Still if you're pushing to the point of heating R compounds fully you're driving too hard on the streets. Even if YOU are capable you never know if grandma around the corner is txting on her phoen. Slow down man, I've seen amazing drivers passs away needlessly, remember the Lexus LFA supercar driver last year? He was a great driver, a leading test driver for Lexus with a great racing history who died in a head on around a sharp corner on the street.
Shit happens man, don't be a statistic. That said. NT05's are damn sticky on the street, I bet they'll turn better times on most crazy ass canyon runs than NT01s for most track junkies. They're stickier than people give em credit for at the temps they're made for.

Toyo ra1 or nitto 555r2. I run the ra1 and it's fine for the street. I have 13k miles on the fronts and then have so much thread left. Rears are at half thread. Downside is as they wear they become rain unfriendly.
Honestly though if u wanna put down a lot of horsepower u have to make sacrifices.

Why are you giving out advice like this?
Firstly the RA1 is a the R888 now, except a few sizes such as the Miata spec class.
It's not "fine" for the street. It's an under-performing tire on the street. You've got 13k on them because you've heat cycled them out and now they're way to hard and thus lasting longer. Half tread at 13,000 miles? So you figure they should last 26,000 miles????? I burn a set of R888's up on the track in 2 days and probably a total of a couple hundred miles.
They're horrible in the rain even when new because AGAIN they work well only in the 180-200*F temp range because they're R compounds, they're designed to shed heat quickly as well which will make it hard to keep them hot. They provide worse traction than a street tire when operated too cold.
If you want to put down a lot of horsepower you have to make intelligent decisions, rather than pretending you have a F1 car on the road.

Interesting. Then mine must be magic. Cause they were awesome In the rain at full thread and hold power just fine even at 13k miles.
Honestly forums are full of opinions. But in the end people should make the decision for themselves and try. If I believed all of what I read I'd be on star specs that wouldn't hold power and I'd prolly loop the car into a tree.

Dude.... just stop.
You're claiming R888s and NT01s are great in the rain? Give me a break. You lack serious driving ability or you're talking out of your ass due to lack of experience. Which is it? Star specs are great daily tires, they're the exact same compound as the new RT615k tires which everyone loves even on the track.
Seriously, you're giving out BS advice because you don't know what the F@#CK you're talking aobut. Call up Troy @ yokohama he handles all trackside support. Ask him what he thinks about this. Or call up Toyo or call up Nitto. I can personally put you in touch with the best minds each company has to offer and they'll say the same thing I'm telling you. Stop guessing and start listening. I tried to be nice but now you're just insulting my intelligence and knowledge straight from the engineers and employees of these companies.
FOR FC@#CKS SAKE. Run ULTRA PERFORMANCE street tires. So they can handle the heat cycles of daily driving and still perform how they're supposed to.
As for V710s NT01s and R888s...THEY'RE RATED FOR UTQG tread wear = 30-100!!!!!!! Do you not understand that factor? In comparison RT615ks are rated for 200 which are considered " verysoft" for street tire. If your R compounds are lasting more than a few days of hard driving you don't know how to drive! I have toasted them in a single day if I do many outings and drive the shit out of them. You don't know what the hell you're talking about.
I've tried to make it clear that NT05's at PROPER temp ARE STICKIER than NT01s at the same temp but it seems this FACT is being put aside.
There's also a such thing as TOO wide of a tire, if the car lacks the weight/power to heat them up fully a larger tire can be worse than a narrow tire too! Same thing occurs with R comps vs ultra performance street tires, you have to run stuff within the right range.
OP..... if you really want to find the most traction you need to start tracking your temps on your tires. As soon as you stop what you call "hard driving" get out and take a temp of all four tires. If you give me inside/middle/outside temps I can even help you fine tune your suspension and tire selection sizes further. A laser temp gun for 30 bucks can do the job though a physical thermo pressed into the tire is a little more accurate. Go to harbor freight even and get a $30 dollar temp gun, give me your center temps of all four tires as hot as you can get em and I'll tell you if you need a R compound or not. Remember, even if you need an R compound you shouldn't daily drive them, you'll work the oil out of them "heat cycle factor" and they'll be trash very quick. In any case, instead of guessing and listening to a bunch of guys who have no idea what they're talking about post your temps and I'll give you factual information and provide the most traction possible for your car.

So limit your power instead of running a tire that can put it to the ground? I guess people shouldn't drive on drag radials either. And for the last time I said ra1 not r8888. Tread pattern ain't even close. And from what I've read they don't perform the same either.
^Yeah. The RA1 is an older tire and design but it hasn't been replaced by the R888. You can still get both and from what I've heard the RA1 is still a much better tire. I've heard they heat cycle extremely well (unlike the R888) and are pretty darn good from new to bald. I'd probably consider them myself but my car is a nice weather only car driven once or twice a week. All I need is something that will work in the dry.
Yea I plan on running boost by gear probably something like 10psi in first, 12-14psi in second and 20ish in 3rd and up. Well see how good my hankooks hold up then I'll probably switch em out
