can anyone please give me some advice on how to properly bleed the coolant system? pleaseeee? i tried opening the bleeder on the head and it still wont go down, temp it 230 which its just readin steam. this hapopened to me before when my system wasnt bled correctly. any advice is appreciated! thanks

 

there is a really good explanation on how to do this. involves jacking the car up so the fill is the highest point of the system, opening the bleed valves and filling until they overflow, then running the car heat on high car jacked up so that the air moves to teh highest point, the fill.

 

I have always just took the radiator cap off when the car was cold, started it up and left the cap off while the car warmed up to operating temp. After it fully warms up, top off the coolant and put the cap back on

 

The easiest way is with the lisle coolant funnel.

This car is tricky. With the engine completely cold, jack the front up about 8-10 inches. Then pull the firewall rubber plug and unscrew or open the front bleeder on the intake manifold. Now, take the radiator cap off and put a radiator funnel on and start slowly filling the radiator. You will notice coolant will start to split out of those open ports. Once they start flowing coolant well, cap them back off. Now, fill the radiator completely to where there is about 2-3 inches of standing coolant in the funnel. After all this, start the car and turn the heat on full blast and let the system burp for about 1/2 hour and no more bubbles are coming out of the radiator funnel. Put the cap back on, lower the car and you're set. If, after you do it this way and you still have overheating problems, its more than likely a blown HG or a leaking intake manifold gasket. This is the best way to bleed this car by far.

 

this is how i did mine.

-with system already drained
-fill radiator up
-disconnect upper hose and fill up to brim
-open bleeder at front of engine
-remove cap from heatercore hardlines on firewall
then attach a hose and start filling till water is constantly
streaming out of bleeder.

idk whats wrong or if i just cant bleed it, but the fans dont kick on when it get to the normal temp the usually kick on. any body have a guess?

 

also what would be a good sign if it had a bad headgasket? it still drives fine

 

^^It will keep overheating after you correctly bleed the system.

 

but wouldnt the fans not kicking mean that the system isnt bled correctly?
