which turbo
So on a 1-10 scale i'm maybe 2 turbo knowledgable lol
I've been trying to piece together a kit for a while now. A guy i work with has been dealing with cars and turboed cars for a lot longer than i have so he is essentially pieceing the kit out for me.
Initially i just wanted to grab a greddy kit but as time passes by they just seem so expensive (yet awesome and exactly what i want).
I just want a little extra kick and confindence going up against some of the v6's and v8's in the occasional street race and also just for some extra fun.
I don't want to really upgrade the clutch or anything like that and i'm in search or freak horsepower numbers (around 300-320 whp)
With all that said my buddy told me i want a "garrett gt28rs aka disco potato" so without an overwhelming amount of flaming which one should i be looking for... PLEASE HELP

60-1. Cheap and will make more power if you want to up the boost later on. GT28RS is quite limited and will run out of breath very fast

ya I know the greddy kit would be awesome I might bite the bullet on it but the guy I work with said the disco potato hits full boost at 3000rpm and would be a blast to cruise around with
if you are hard pressed to get a garrett and want something less then 330whp and quick spool 2871 or 2876.
Do not get the discopotato its compressor side does not have enough air to support the s2k CFM requirements at redline in an efficient manner.
Yes it may hit full boost quickly but it is going to fall on its face. What you want to do is get a turbo that can reach your desired boost/cfm quickly and efficiently hold that CFM/boost all the way to redline with out falling out of its main efficiency areas.
Both internal wastegate so one less part to buy. but may be harder to find the correct downpipe.
If you order a 2871
you want to order a compressor A/R of .50 not .60
compressor A/R of .50 A/R expands choke line to the right giving it more air up top similar to the 2876
GT2871RS PN:743347-2 (56 trim compressor 76 trim turbine)
Turbine housing option for A/R of .86 for more exhaust flow up top
Compressor housing option 756021-1 ( to make compressor A/R .50)
However for the ultimate low end TQ you can

instead of fumbling with collecting it, just buy a used Greddy kit. it's prfect for your power goal.
