Default turbo and AEM install

I have not done much on my car before aside from brake pads change fluids etc...

I have space where I work, tools and a friend who is a reasonably competent mecanic.

So if I want to risk a greddy turbo and aem install myself...

1) am I mad?

2) if I do the install, is the AEM a straight swap for the OEM engine managment as in un plug the old one and plug in the new?

3) how do you get the car to a tuner? is there a base map for a stock car with a greddy kit or is there a way to limp the car around like taking off the a super chargers belt?

Or should I just cough up to get someone else to install it?

Thanks

AEM is a straight swap. almos plug and play. but you have to load a base map that come with the aem emns, it will take you 5 minutes.

the turbo kit is not hard to install. but if you don't feel comfortable take it to a shop. if you take it to a shop, look for one that has a dyno.

if you dicide to install the kit your self, use as tow truck. many people is going to tell you, just to load the best map and drive car to the dyno.. but why risk a engine? when you can just pay $60 - 80 and safe you trouble

The AEM EMS install is a simple PnP install. Take the old ECU out and swap with the new AEM unit. You'll need a basemap to actually let your car turn on however and I doubt greddy would supply one.

The turbo kit looks fairly simple to install but if your not confident, why risk it. Even if your friend knows how to, do you trust your 5000 dollar motor with him? Personally, if I don't understand what I'm doing I'll let a professional do it not a friend who thinks he knows how to

and if you get the Greddy kit its going to come with the E-manage, which is pre-tuned. Do you have a certified tuner close enough to tune the AEM or even the emanage? Have them do the install and tune if you think you can't handle it..

hmmm so thats a maybe.

I don't think many peopele here in the UK can tune the e manage so I would go with the AEM and get it tuned by Mase when he is next here.

Thanks for the input

You could do the initial install with the e-manage so you can drive it. Then when you get it to a dyno, swap in the EMS and tune it.
