Turbo charging and exhausts
I drive an S2000 with an Invidia exhaust, and its extremly loud. A friend of mine is planning to turbo charge his s2000 and wants to buy an exhaust that's quiet yet provides ample free flow and is within the range of $600 to $1100. One of the options is an HKS exhaust. Please let us know what exhaust have u fitted on your turbo charged S2000's and what's the noise level.
Thanks
Thanks
a turbocharged car will not have the same kind of noise with a NA or SC'ed car. It is a totally different system. I think your friend should get a custom 3" exhaust. A 3" exhaust will be 10 times more quiet than an NA car with 2" exhaust
I'd highly recommend that your friend not go w/ any of the popular s2k exhausts out there. They're designed for N/A motors and the exhaust side of the equation for a turbo setup is completely different than that of a N/A (or even SC) setup.
As others have recommended, a nice 3" exhaust is probably your best bet. InlinePro and (i think) Full Race both have exhausts for turbo applications or you can have one custom fabricated.
As to noise, a 3" exhaust is going to be fairly loud. However, the turbo does provide something of a muffling effect. My 3" is relatively quiet at idle and partial throttle compared to something like the Invidia, but at WOT, there's not much you can do; it's gonna be loud.
Also, my exhaust started out as the InlinePro turbo exhaust but the drone was unbearable (to me at least). Had the muffler cut off and a magnaflow can welded on and it's dramatically better.

Yes, you need to keep in mind that your same invidia exhaust on your friend's turbo'd s2k is going to sound way more quiet, and the tone will be totally changed. I had always thought that a 3" single would be deafening, but after hearing how my HKS sounded like a stock exhaust after I went turbo I quickly changed my mind.

I have this T1R exhaust:

It's 70mm back to the split and then 63mm to each can. It was designed for F/I.
Although, when you go turbo, you will be amazed at how much more quiet your exhaust will become. I would bet my T1R would scream if I was S/C or N/A.

Have you heard an invidia on a turbo car?
I would imagine that it would be much more quiet on a turbo car, much like my T1R 70mm.
