Default Turbo and oil pressure help.................

Just wondering if someone can help me out that has a turbo setup and knows what the oil pressure is supposed to be? Here is my situation. I have the UR turbo kit and have installed a DEFI oil pressure gauge to keep an eye on the oil pressure. At idle, when the engine is completely warmed up, my pressure is around 20 to 23 psi. At normal driving it's around 70 to 75 psi. But when VTEC kicks in, it drops down to about 60 psi until I back off the throttle and then it will jump back to about 70 to 75 psi. Just curious if anyone else has an oil pressure gauge and knows if this is normal or not. Even if you have an NA S, I would like to know how the pressure is. I'm wondering if the relocation kit is too far from the engine to keep the pressure up where it should be or if there is some other problem. Or if everything is ok.

Thanks for the help.

That's about normal. I wouldn't worry. I put about 8000 miles on my UR Turbo, and it did the same thing. Never caused a problem.

I have electrical gauges that are not nearly as good/pricey as DEFI and I get just about the same readings your are getting. I notice that right around 3500 RPM's i get about 80psi but if i rev higher it drops to about 70psi though. But im not worried about. Im following the old school rule of 10psi per every 1,000 RPM's...

That's exactly what mine does. And then at VTEC it drops to about 60 and holds right there all the way to 8900 RPM. That's what worries me. Why isn't oil pressure going up after VTEC, as RPM goes up? I was thinking that maybe it's because the oil is getting transferred to the VTEC solenoid thus causing pressure to drop once engaged. Could this be the case? Darryl at UR tells me that oil pressure should climb all the way to redline. He also said that they had the same problem until they clocked the oil filter relocator, on the block, as far down to 6 o'clock as possible. But that didn't change a thing for me.

I would test it w/ a oil psi tester and see if your readings change or not. My car doesnt drop that low. 60 psi does seem a little low to me at redline.

Also, the only thing that I have done different to the oil system is I used -10 braided line for the oil relocation kit instead of the 1/2 inch rubber line supplied. I wouldn't think this would be a problem. Darryl even said that should be fine to do.

Dan, stop hijacking peoples' threads with your FOR SALE multiple times. Put it in the "FOR SALE" forum and be done with it.

My reconditioned Greddy turbo (loaned from a good friend) has been blowing a lot of smoke. The rubber seal/gasket is rated at max of 120 psi. We will check the oil pressure before we install the new turbo but just want to get some info before we do this.

Could everyone with an oil pressure gauge let me know what is the max oil pressure you ever get, at what temperature and what oil you used?
