Default Turbo people: VTEC surge not as noticeable?

Noob FI question for all you guys with turbo's: I have had my turbo (turbonetics 60-1) on for a few months now and I am loving it, but I noticed pretty much right away that the VTEC surge is nowhere near as noticeable as it used to be when the car was NA. Has anybody here noticed the same thing? I am making full boost around 5k, is it just the fact that the power surge comes on earlier now? I feel the surge somewhere below 5k now when the turbo starts to spool, as opposed to around 6k like what you'd get with a stock S. The once I hit VTEC it seems to just make a bunch of noise with not much of a surge like when it was stockish. The car is running great, plugs look great, etc... so I guess I'm not so much worried that something is wrong, just curious to see if anybody else noticed this as well?

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine is about the same, although I have the UR kit. And I believe if it's tuned right, it should be this way to make power delivery more linear. Basically, the turbo is making up the gap or difference of power normally lossed at VTEC engagement between low and high cam lobes on a stock S.

what kind of noise is it making? i'd be very careful with noises, especially in high rpm.

yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I guess I just got used to the stock power delivery where it's like "nothingnothingnothing6kholycrap" hehe. I have let my friends drive it around and the local mechanic did an inspection yesterday and drove it around, everybody assures me it is fine, so I guess I just wanted to see if anybody here noticed that the VTEC surge was less pronounced than before as well.

I just had some tuning and the vtec is set at 4400 and its not noticable much. Its just smooth power all the way up.

With Rick's 4.56 differential gears, VTEC was not noticeable - just a huge rush of acceleration and sideways motion through the gears. Switched back to stock 4.10, and VTEC is much more noticeable.
