Default turbo question

i know you need a aftermarket exhaust if you want to go turbo. but whenever i see a turbo can it always has the giant single invidia or something. i went with a dual tip borla that ran me a little over a grand. if i was to go fi would it be able to handle it??? also what supporting mods would i need to make the car more reliable and handle the extra power better. i mean i know the car is not going to be as reliable as it is know just help the car handle it.

Most people go with a large single b/c of the amount of exhaust it can flow...the reason is this...most single exhausts will have a much larger pipe from the down pipe back to muffler and allow a more free flowing exhaust route as there aren't as many bends and no "T" in the pipe where the exhaust actually splits off to go to both mufflers in a dual exhaust setup. For instance most of the single exhausts have an 80mm pipe I believe, depending on brand of course, which allows a better path for flow than say two 50 mm pipes with the extra bends, etc. I know exhaust resonance (the way the exhaust pulses travel down the pipe) also come into play here, but unless you're planning on building a huge system I wouldn't worry too much. A single exhaust is much louder, and you'll also have an obvious place where there should be a second muffler. Not as obvious on the AP1 you have but still it may look funny too you. Weight is also another reason people go with single exhausts. If the exhaust you have was made for NA applications you may want to have system with a larger pipe from the down pipe to the mufflers if you go turbo...Berk Technologies has a good dual muffler setup that "supposedly" flows more than a single 80mm pipe...some agree some disagree but I do know that the Berk pipe is one of the only exhaust setups that gives a good boost in power for the S since most exhausts only enhance sound...I think it gives 8hp or so from what I've seen...anyway it really just comes down to preference really and if you want dual...go with dual...I would however check with Berk about the design of their exhaust though if you go that route...I'm not sure if they have a different setup for a turbo S or check on just getting bigger pipes for your exhaust if possible. And as far as reliability, from what I've read up on (I haven't went turbo yet but as soon as one of my toys sells I'm ordering the kit!) I've seen that adding a thicker head gasket to drop the compression to 9:1 the car is pretty reliable up to 12 psi or so. Our cars already have forged internals stock so they are strong enough to handle FI.
