Default Turbo or SC

What's up guys,

I'm just about to re-enter the FI club. I'm coming from a 500whp civic but as we all know RWD and FWD are completely different things. My problem starts with whether I should do an SC set up or Turbo on my 00 ap1.

I've done the search thing and I haven't come up with very many solid results. I've been following the FI section for a little while now and there are a few of you on here that really know what you are doing and have exp with this car.

I plan on doing some weekend tracking with this car. Maybe hit the strip once or twice to see what she will do and maybe some roll runs on a secluded road.

I have driven my friends CTSC s2k and the power delivery is extremely smooth. I have yet to drive a turbo s2k and I am worried that the power is too sperattic. My civic was very much like that. I know ems has the speed vs boost function. How well does that work though? Anyone using it?

I know the cam design is very different in these cars which can make the power delivery smoother. However I was hoping that someone that may have some track exp with a turbo car can enlighten me. Or even someone with a SC can tell me what some of the tendencies of the car on the track.

My choices are as follows:

Vortech SC with pulley upgrade, 3mm headgasket, headstuds, spearco rad, 650cc and EMS

Second choice is:

UR turbo kit, 3mm headgasket, headstuds with ems.

I know the stock UR kit comes with a 60-1 turbo. I know there will be some lag bottom end. But when I spoke to the owner of UR, they said they've had the best results with that turbo. Anything smaller, the car ends up picking up a lot of mid range but dies really hard up top where the car likes to be.

I'm not too concerned with the HP number, I just want good driveability on the track.

And finally, have a lot of you been having issues with diffs and axles? I'm looking to upgrade those but I've read they hold up just fine as long as you don't drag.

Cheers!

well I say Turbo, power comes on way earlier in the power band, my power is very linear, not anywhere near speratic.

Also the 237ft/lbs of Torque at 3,500RPMS is an amazing feeling

Krafteweks seems nice, but for that much money I would go Inline Pro and stomp any Kraftwerks car

turbo will get you you the most power across the whole powerband, which may be more admirable for a streetish car.

superchargers are incredibly smooth but at times you may get so used to it and think to yourself "is this thing on?"

whatever you choose to do, BE SURE to replace your oil jet bolts. i believe it is MY00 and MY01 that have worse OJB's than the newer cars. mine goes in for it next week.

I would suggest searching through the numerous SC and turbo threads to give you a better idea of the the pros and cons are of each. That will certainly help you make the decision.

3mm hg on an SC is overkill unless you're going 16+psi. SC's run cool so that spearco rad would be a waste of money. Headstuds aren't needed. Good choice on the EMS and 650's, but 750's would be better.
