Arrow the usual question... turbo vs. sc, but...

Okay, this topic has been addresses a few times, but overall nobody can come to a conclusive answer... i read the poll, im figuring there's a reason why 64% of ppl on this forum have a SC over a turbo... Im wondering if this is bc its cheaper, or easier, or less problems. I've heard the rumors, install a turbo, you'll be running hot all the time and there's a lot to do to get the car to run correctly. Install a SC, and you're stuck with the power you get with no room to improve, but its easy and not to many problems arise.

I'd like, overall, to know... if i put the time and money into installing a turbo correctly, is this the better choice? Are all these engines being blown and running hot bc the time wasn't taken to prep and tune the rest of the car? I've seen gilberts success story, but tahts the only one.

Please post.... i want to order by spring. Thanks!

just to let you know a supercharger can be upgraded (add more boost w/ a smaller pulley) i just went from the 5psi pulley to the 8psi pulley and got 20 rwhp. which ever rought you go i think it is very important you get it tuned correctly so you will not hurt your engine. also the regular comptech and vortech kits come with the novi 1000 blower which i heard can handle up to 15 pounds of boost and you can always cram in a novi 2000 which i heard can handle up to 35-40. someone correct me if i am wrong.

A properly installed and tuned turbo will produce more impressve results. It will produce power sooner ~3500 from what I hear and has signifigant room for more (read the thread about inline pushing 26psi and getting 521 hp). Turbos tend to be higher maintenance with higher maintenance costs.

Comptech/Vortech supers on the S are centrifugal type. Meaning that they will not produce boost until about 5k rpms? (If I'm wrong here, someone point it out, I'm working off of what other S2ki'ers are saying.) The supers tend to be more daily drivable since you won't get boost under easy driving situations. This also leads to less wear and tear on the engine.

Turbos have historically been signifigantly more expensive to install and tune than Supers as well.

So in the end, I think most will agree that it all depends on what you use you S for.

Also S/C are proven to be more reliable.

I believe the Vortech does not use a Paxton Novi unit.

it looks like people have covered most of general discussions. what kind of answer are you looking for?

what's stopping you from buying SC or turbo? better question would be what are you going to use your car for? show? drag? track?

have you had thought to stay NA? even as NA, S2000 is a great car to drive around.

My tuner super-imposed a graph of a 309whp SC S2k over the graph below:

At about 4krpm, there was nearly 80 ft/lb more torque, AND there was more at redline. This means the car with the setup above is going to be knocking the socks off the car with the SC, before the SC car is even in boost.
