Default Valve springs and retainers

I'm trying to get a couple of questions that I have answered.

First, how long should titanium retainers last? How many miles do you have on yours and do they still look fine? I have a buddy with a Cobalt who had about 3k miles on his and multiple Supertech titanium retainers were cracked when we pulled his head when his Cometic head gasket blew. I don't want to worry about having that issue.

Second, Would the SOS single valve spring kit with AP2 retainers work fine for shifting to around 9500rpm? I will probably contact them tomorrow as theres not much info on their website, but want some opinions. Or if anyone has this setup, please chime in.

Thirdly, what do you feel is the best valve spring and retainer setup?

Wow you know there is a search button right. JK

Are you going to pull the head? Or just rev out your monster of a turbo a bit more?

Sounds like your buddy has some other issues. You are correct that a titanum retainer will wear faster however not that fast. If you are worried you could install AP2 retainers but I am not sure that is best way I will leave that to others to chime in.

As for SOS's parts, I have no experience with them but I have been very impressed with the quality of all of the other kits and pieces they make.

Here are a few posts I keep in my favorites on build heads. Let me know if you have any questions.

^^^^ Very good information above!!!

As for SOS, I would definitely give them a call and pick their brains for some information and parts. Some very knowledgeable guys over there!
I can personally recommend them w/o a doubt! Were lucky to have them out here in Phoenix.

I was planning on building the head sometime soon and revving it out more. Possibly buying a second head, getting that done, and do a quick head swap. The turbo and whole setup is perfect for the stroker kit that I eventually want to do, but until then, I'm not gonna change things unless Mase comes out nearby anytime soon. If he does, then I'll get a smaller turbine housing.
