I am in the process of installing these mounts. I was curious, the OEM mounts have a metal heat shield (or splash shield?) that sits on top of the mount. Do you keep these shields or remove them? I could not find any clarification on this. I really don't see the need in using these shields but thought I would ask.

Thanks!

I really like them. I can only compare against OEM mounts though. If the AC is on, my idle goes down just a tad and when this happens I do feel the car idle a little. I actually like it. It's not like its shaking or anything. Without the AC, I don't notice the engine idle at all. If anyone is sensitive to idle roughness, just bump it up a 100rpm and it will probably go away.

I just mentioned this in another thread but these mounts lowered my engine ~1/8". I think this might be due to not running the OEM heat shields. There is plenty of room to add in flat washers or spacers if anyone wants to raise the motor back up. Now consider that I installed these when both of my OEM mounts were broken. So, maybe my motor with the broken mounts was sitting a tad higher ?? A case could be made that broken mounts would have the motor a tad lower?? Who knows, but I saw my motor go down ~1/8" after installing these.

Hope this helps.

I installed a set with my new engine. It is still in break-in mode but they seem to be really great with no extra vibrations or sounds.
Both of my old factory mounts had separated into two pieces.

Does anyone have a link handy for how to check the OEM mounts? Starting to wonder if mine are worn out.

Mine looked fine but when I jacked up the engine a couple inches the mounts separated.
See picture. I've seen some of them melted & tweeked in other ways.
If they look normal you should remove them to check them out completely.
Just pick up a set of the VT mounts and see what you have been missing.

I would take the bottom nuts off of both of the mounts, then jack the motor up a few inches. Wiggle the bottom half of the mount around to see if it is partially or completely separated.

Also, if you notice any tan colored fluid that appears to have leaked from around the mount, then they are bad. They are filled with a tan oil and only leak if they start to break. This observation applies to the differential mounts (front & rear) as well. Might as well check them all while you are at it.
