as someone mentioned earlier maybe bearings or seals. But i had a clatter/rattle sound that i ONLY heard when from about 1-2k rpms when putting the car in gear and a bit of a clatter/grind @ idle, turned out one of my pulleys had gotten lose. Dont really know how, maybe wasnt tightened all the way, maybe just vibrated a bit lose, either way, i went and cranked down all the bolts that i could get to that hold pulleys in place and problem was solved.

here is a video of what mine sounds like. The video sounds worse than it does in person. I started it for people that have owned or heard vortechs and they say its normal but mine sounds nothing like that video

just spoke to vortec and they said that the v-2 should have some "backlash" of the gears at idle

Consider that our cars have small, high-rpm engines as compared to the vehicles this supercharger typically goes on. The impeller spins at a lower rpm at idle and having little load (air to move), the gear drive inside the unit tends to rattle. As long as it goes away at higher rpms then there is no problem. If you are running a smaller pulley, making the supercharger run faster, you may not have this issue, or it will be less.
