Default Vortech air filter question

Hey guys, i have the vortech kit on my 2002 and u know how the black vortech air box thing is towards the fender hole? Do you think it's better to just have the air inlet (back elbow) just attached to the filter instead of sucking air from the fender area. Because there is no like ram air to the fender, so didn't know if it would make a diff. Anyone try this or have an opinion? Please let me know. thanks, James

See the black thing that goes in the fender that says "vortech"

There is going to be a greater HP improvement with the black cover because the ram air effect on a supercharger is less then the effect of Cold air to the supercharger. There isn't too much circulation up there in the first place and even if there was, the air you are trying to stuff into the supercharger would be like trying to turn the engine faster with a 4 inch windmill.
