Vortech Belt Tension - Which is correct?
I just wanted to make sure with you guys that I had this right, and figured it would be a good reference post as well.
When testing tension by hand, do you want to be able to turn it parallel to the supercharger plate (90 degrees) or 45 degrees? Here are two pics. Keep in mind this is the long gap between the supercharger pulley and the ribbed idler pulley on bottom.
45 Degrees

90 Degrees (perpendicular to rest of belt)

Would love to have peace of mind that my belt is not slipping. Currently I have tension set at 90 degrees.
Thanks!

I put grease on the main plate and idler puller spacer. I was worried about the alloy mainplate wearing.

So I have fabricated a locking systen out of an old spanner.
But the testion still seems to be changing every time I drive it WTF? !!!!!!
Dunno why Vortech did'nt just use a sprig loaded tensioner like the OEM one.

At this point do not adjust the adjusting bolt as It will damage it. The bolt can not move the locked down arbor. I have seen over a dozen people destroy that bolt and often the arbor too by not unlocking it first. If the bolt does not turn easily in the arbor you should take the assembly off the plate and try to salvage it. If you need a new one call Vortech.
Only twist the adjusting bolt after you loosen the nut on the arbor about 1/3 turn. You normally access the nut on the arbor from underneath the car.
Laying under the oil filter area, the wrench should travel along the oil coolant hose and just allow you the access the nut on the arbor in the concave part of the pulley. You will only be able to make short sweeps with the wrench and then you turn it over and give it another small sweep.
Do that twice and it will be loose enough to adjust.
Snug it down tight when finished adjusting.
[QUOTE=Sideways,Feb 10 2010, 08:54 PM] You use the adjusting bolt to set the initial tightness of the belt and then you tighten the nut down to lock the arbor to the plate.
