Vortech Supercharger .. Idling Issue
I have a 2001 S with a 2000 yr model Vortech and an Apexi air flow converter on it. It ran fine for many years bur recently I have had a problem with my idle. Once the car warms up the standing RPMs constantly cycle from about 500 to 2000 over and over till I drive or put load on the car and come to a stop when idle stays about 1000. If I rev the engine at a stop without putting load on the car it resumes cycling. I have replaced the MAP sensor and the IAC idle control valve with no results. I had one mechanic with electronic experience look at the car and consult some performance people. They believe the original electronic control boxes tend to break down and that its now defective and probably needs to be replaced. Personally I have no idea if the supercharger's control box would have any effect on the idle.
Questions:
1. I never really used the AFC controls. Will the supercharger operate properly if I eliminate it? Can I do that by simply unplugging its signal harness?
2. Does the supercharger have it's own ECU box and also a new MAP controller or is the old MAP controller just re-positioned?
3. Will the car run in stock configuration if I unplug the charger's Electronic Control Box even though the AFC is still hooked up? This would allow me to figure if the fault is even in the supercharger set up.
4. Will an newer updated Control Box solve any problems?
4 . I am mechanically inclined and have manuals but still do not understand the installation all the control elements and interfaces of these systems. Where or who are good technical resources to solve these issues? I live in the Detroit area.
Thanks for any help!
