Default Weak at +8500rpms

I just purchased a SC S2000 and I've noticed that above 8500rpms it is very weak. The power falls off significantly. I tried to search but I'm not sure how to go about searching for a solution any advise is greatly appreciated. Could it be running too rich/lean? Need new sparkplugs? Thanks.

If you just obtained the car you should put it on a dyno and check out the AFR at high rpms. The belt should also be checked for tightness.

Sounds like belt slip. You should be feeling the strongest pull up top.

Is there a squeel involved with the loss of power?

^Then I don't think the belt is slipping.

I had the same problem, just installed it on saturday. I checked my belt and it was loose so i tightened it. I felt alot more power afterwards. every now and then when i give it give it alot of gas and not in Vtec it doesnt pull. it will only do it once or twice and then it would be fine.

Thanks for the advise guys. I found the problem. My catalytic converter was shot! I pulled it out and you could hear the guts sliding around inside. I swapped it out for the one off my old car (RIP) and it's running MUCH better now. I must have picked up atleast 30hp and it pulls hard and smooth all the way to redline. Belts checked out fine. I'm going to try and get it up on a dyno asap to check out the afr just to be safe.

Hey man, I'm about to make a thread about this, but I was experiencing the same problem and couldn't diagnose it. But just recently my resonator went bad on my 2.5" Jic magic single exhaust, and so i replaced the resonator with a straight pipe.

I really don't know why, but, the powerloss feeling after 8k isn't present anymore. I can definitely tell a difference, I believe it's because the diameter of the resonator was quite a bit smaller than the actual pipe, creating a restriction for high rpm flow. This was my case.

but of course, you could need tuning, and your belt could also be slipping as already stated.

Just recently I heard rattling in my car and it was my cat, the honeycomb broke inside and in turn broke the tip off my o2 sensor, I ran it like that until I could find a cheap cat and I wasnt noticing your symptoms, I highly doubt that a bad cat would cause your problem but I have been wrong before
