Default weakest link?

I am just wondering which of the parts is actually the one that needs to be replaced. I am going turbo and want to strengthen the rear end. But what part of the rear end is it? The actual differential or the gears or the housing?? If its the diff what is a good brand and setting to purchase?? Cusco 1.5?? How much would it cost to drop the rear end put the gears in and set it into the housing and put it all back on?? I know its alot but thanks in advance anyway.

From what I've heard, the weakest link is by far the pumpkin. I've also heard that the reinforcement doesnt really do much. It adds a slight piece of mind but it can't help you if you get a REALLY bad launch or lots of wheel hop.

The only real rear end solution is a different rear end.

depends on how much power you will make.

if you are shooting for 400+whp and want to launch the car, it would be the diff. when you change the diff, you will also need to change the whole setup

I think the Comptech reinforced diff and cryo gears will help a lot if you plan on staying under 400 whp. You could probably get away with soft launches and not hurt anything. I never launched on mine though so I don't know for sure.

I put an 05 dif in mine. It's a stronger housing and the matching 05 driveshaft. (The 05 driveshaft is a little different in shape and weight and how they connect to both the diff and the tranny.) I think that flange change also has something to do with strengthening the housing or at least releiving some stress. You have to change your tranny flange to do this

I had the gears and the housing cyro'd. I have a lot of power and drive my car hard. I've had no problems. I think the cryo tempering treatment makes it lots stronger. You can check with jcarlton on here for cryo info.

Prior to that I toasted a set of 444's on an 02 housing. It was the housing that broke. I've seen several, they all were broke below the comptech piece. You can also get a little longer bolt in the pinion gear retainer. I went to a little harder and a little longer.
