It's not the coverage of parts that concerns me. It's the coverage in general, particularly third party.

If you have a crash and hurt someone the insurance company will be up for many thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars. They will do everything in their power to deny the claim, and a bloody great turbo sticking out the hood of the wreck is fairly obvious.

The best advice really is to talk to your insurance agent.

I agree 100 percent. That being said, what did your insurance comapny say (I'm only assuming you talked to them about it seeing as you are FI). Thx

if you turbo your car, cause an accident, and are at fault. they cant deny the claim cause you had a turbo on your car. they will just rail you on your renewal for having an at fault claim.

you pay for liability coverage in case you cause an accident, that wont be denied. now if the accident was not your fault, and the at faults insurance adjuster tries to say your turbo caused some of the accident, well then kindly ask for another adjuster, cause the appearance of speed doesn't mean speed.

side note, my adjuster tried that crap when a woman ran a stop sign and tried to end me. he said it still might be my fault even though witnesses and the police immediately knew and reported it was her fault and i felt it was because of my age and my modded car. i ripped into him hardcore for that crap, finished it with i am lucky to be alive, got my car fixed then cancelled there policy.

camuman, maybe in the US insurance companies are run by humans, but not here in Aus. If you have a mod on your car and no engineers certificate to say that it is legal and/or don't declare it on your insurance that is reason enough to void a claim.

Jsmply, my insurer is a specialist insurer. They only insure enthusiasts and car club members. I have a limited mileage policy. I told them about the policy and they raised the premium a little and increased to value insured for.

. They can't drop your coverage for you for adding parts to your car... I am sure there are some exceptions to the rule, such as telling them you track the car on the weekends. I would recommend going with the stated value policy if your state/insurance company allows it. It makes everything more simple in the worst case scenario. And make sure you have the under-insured motorist coverage added as well.

And to "tbtak". Not trying to insult you, but more than likely your custom parts are not insured if your rates didn't go up from the base amount of your policy. Unless you went to your insurance company and said: "Hey I have a turbo kit on my car that is worth $X,XXX, and needs to be added to my policy". If you do crash your S or someone decides to play bumper cars with your vehicle. You will get replacement value for the damaged stock parts (Unlikely you will get comp'd for aftermaket parts) such as a turbocharger, exhaust, custom headers, etc.. I guess you could go to small claims court and try to fight it there.

Good luck and hope this helps,

Josh

Sure they can. It happens all the time. They have no legal obligation to insure you... many companies will not insure you with a heavily modified car. I know AllState refused to insure my S. Geico had no problem with it though...

Please note, I said nothing about 'coverage'. In my experience they are eager to take your money. I said they can refuse a 'claim' (ie payout) if your vehicle turns out to be illegal. And once again this is in Aus, but I expect insurance companies are of the same breed worldwide.

USA def ain't the same then. There was a guy on the fi bored bout year or two ago that bout a heavily nodded s2k and on his way home with it the car burst into flames and burned to the ground. The fire was def cause of all the mods and car was total loss. Dude still got paid by insurance for all of it.

Guess they are tougher in aus.

Your rate won't increase if you tell them about FI. I had my KW and Inline pro kit covered if for some reason i was involved in an accident. I would get my cars value plus 5,000$ of extra coverage for my kit. It's a no brainer.
