Default What to do?

Well guys it looks like the hg is on it's way out after all, after various cooling upgrades the car is still over heating a little, and the weird thing is that sometimes it will hold temp and then randomly the temps will rise, there's a little bit of milk shake in my catchcan, none really on the oil cap, did a compression test numbers were 232, 212, 224, and 210. Shining a light past where the spark plugs sit looking at the pistons, pistons 3 and 4 look wet, so I can say the hg is going soon, so here's my dilemma, I have a spare hg here, do I install it, or do the mahle low comp pistons and use a stock hg, also if I do go mahle should I buy new beefed up rods or go stock, I never heard of anyone breaking a stock rod so I wasn't sure what to do, this sucks I just wanna drive my car

If it was me I would just swap the headgasket and be done with it, seems like you are happy with the power it has now.

If you're going to tear it down again, might as well do it right. Stock HG, low comp pistons.

yours lasted a long time. how many years/miles on it?

i would do the mahle pistons and stock rods, stock hg. but, big thing is thats a lot more work. you have to make sure the block is prepared for them i beleive, and in two cases so far the stock block wasnt to spec and couldnt accept the mahle pistons.

IF I could have gotten away with a simple h/g swap, I'd be ALL over it.

Next thing you know, you have a sleeved block, and you want 1000whp, lol.

KEEP WHAT YOU HAVE, DRIVE, ENJOY.

nm, just read in another thread you cant use stock rods with mahle pistons. so now your adding even more money. swap the hg, be done with it.

thats the least of your worries. to do those pistons, you have to potentially pull the motor, buy pistons, rods, bearings, oem hg, etc.

now, if money and time doesnt matter, then yeah, those pistons are bad ass. but, again, your block might not be a candidate for those pistons, as evidenced by siadam and irishflame27.
