What to do?
I think the problem with the original IP 3mm HG's are that they dont use a OEM HG on their spacer. I think it may be a cheap knockoff. When you go to mate a stock HG up with the 3mm spacer, you will see what I mean as the rivet locations dont line up. If it were me, I'd get a OEM HG and remove the rivets to split it and remove the old HG from your 3mm spacer. Then pull the thin center spacer from the OEM HG and replace it with the 3mm spacer. Dont worry about using rivets to put the HG back together, its not needed and they are only used for keeping the HG together while shipping it. They arent needed when you isntall the HG and this is how I have done mine twice with no problems at all and I make around 700 whp on the IP 3mm spacer/OEM HG with ARP headstuds. One other thing to do is inspect the 3mm spacer real well and look for any machining burrs that have become folded over and left. I had a few of these that I cleaned off my 3mm spacer and I believe it could cause some problems if left. Also, use a straight razor edge and pull the razor to scrap the block surface real good and lightly clean the 3mm spacer by hand in circular motions with some scotch bright pads. This is what I did to mine and no problems making big power.
thanks spoolin, ur set up is crazy now, how long have u been running 700 hp on the 3mm? mabye ill try what u said before doing pistons, and i talked to inlinepro today, you can use stock rods with mahle low comp pistons
I havent been at 700 whp for very long but I was at 600 whp and 650 whp for about 2 years and 2000 miles or so. The car only has 15k miles on it so as you can see, I dont drive it much but when I do, it gets beaten on in roll racing on the weekends quite a bit. I have only pulled the head for building it and havent blown a 3mm HG yet.
As Fernando stated, The HG's are getting blown by poor tuning with some detonation if bad fuel has been used that you didnt know about, over heating or a poor HG install. The bad fuel part is why I stay away from pump piss anymore and only run race gas or e85 and have a good tuner that knows where to set things for safety if bad fuel did happen to get into the car. With race fuel and e85 its highly unlikely that will ever happen though.
If my headgasket ever does blow, which I highly doubt it ever will, I will just pull the 3mm spacer and run the OEM HG at stock CR since I'm on e85 all the time. I would just do this to get the quench area back to where it needs to be. I still believe the 3mm HG is just fine though if you have a good tuner and install it correctly.

If you're going to tear it down again, might as well do it right. Stock HG, low comp pistons.
