Whats the ideal gear ratio for an FI s2k?
I havn't bought a performance mod for my S in a while, and i want to change the gears in my car...I wan't to change them to a set that will be ok N/A, but will still be accetable for when i go F/I down the road. I plan on a turbo setup, but who knows i may switch to a SC...
I really like the 4.44 gear ratio after driving an S with them, but the availibility is an issue with 4.44's. 4.77's are way too high for a FI setup. This leaves me with the 4.57's that Ricks sells. What is everyones opinions?

Depends on what power you're making the powerband. High powered S2000's would more than likely want something like 3.9 gears or so since all it does it spin tires.

im not looking for sick amounts of power...i plan to be in the 300-400 rwhp range...that will be enough to make me happy. as for boost, if i go turbo i can't see running more than 8psi, and super charger i might go higher since the reliability is better...
anyway, i will have ems and tuning if i go the F/I route...I just need the gears to be nice for n/a since ill be that way for a little while longer...

I got a 4.44 complete diff for sale if you like inernational freight
with kane. I would prefer the stock ratio as I wouldn't have to "row" the gears as much. With lots of torque I don't think it make much difference in term of the overall 1/4 time anyway.

For a stock vortech setup, I much rather go with 4.57, I mean I dont know how 4.44's would perform, but I can tell you that off a roll, the 4.57's will outperfom stock gears by at least a car.

The *ONLY* argument ligitimate argument against 4.77 IMO, is the higher freeway criusing speed for all but the most extreme FI applications. I don't understand why people always say FI is no good with short gears. You're comparing apples to oranges.
I ONLY have traction problems on a HARD 1-2 shift on a *dusty* road with a 4.77 rear, and I'm putting down more power than the average FI s2k.
I think a mild FI setup is PERFECT for a 4.77 set, if you can live with the high freeway cruise. I wouldn't consider taller gears until you start breaking into 400 rwhp territory....
Nevermind that if you were putting down over 400+ rwhp, that means you're running an EMS too, which means you get traction control....

Richmond 4.57 from Rick's
4.77 is too high for me, and 4.44's are too hard to find and too pricey...
