I've babied my drivetrain ever since I FI the car. The diff has been upgraded to 4.44 ratio. The clutch was a hypersingle exedy.
I've rarely launch this car at all. It probably had less than 10 launch since FI. Everything was holding up until recently where I had to take it to the drag strip to support a friend. Stronger diff and gearbox replacements were on the plan so any stock drivetrain failure was just for R&D purpose.

I launched the car at 3500rpm at a drag strip twice without any problem. The car bogged a fair bit with 60" of 2.7, 1/4 of 13.3 and trap speed of 117.
At 3700rpm, the clutch bited quicker than expected and this is what happened

One of the axle

The other axle

Closer look of the survived axle, check out the spline on the weak honda axle

1 broken shaft at the inner joint, and twisted splines on the outboard? At least the diff hasn't broken.... yet.

the stock diff ratio was upgraded to 4.44:1 bfore all of these launches.
Xviper predicted back then that this probably reduces the forces on the diff and transfer that to the stub axles, cv and axles.

Im scared to see my axles/diff/trans after 8k miles of torque induced abuse. I have YET to launch the car from a stop though...at least with trying to hookup(done a few burnouts, if done properly, shouldnt shock things too much).

wouldn't the best way to launch from the dead stop is to preload the clutch ? From what I heard from people that does it, it actually put less stress on your drivetrain.

birdie, that's only if you let go of your handbrake on time
If you have lots of torque, grippy racing clutch and you let go of the handranke a tad late, you will brake the axle for sure....especially the s2k stock axle.

Do you want some stronger gears?
www.ppgearbox.com.au is working on a set for me at the moment....after 6 months of wait you may want to contact them otherwise you will miss the boat.

Same exact thing happened to me at the track. The car wheel hopped really hard and then BOOM, clunk clunk clunk. The axle twisted apart.

I would really not recommend launching at the track because of how sticky it is.
