Why does comptechs supercharger have to modify the map sensor?

Default Why does comptechs supercharger have to modify the map sensor?

Well I got the comptech installation of the supercharger finished, minus the Map sensor signal conditioner. I cranked it up and it seems to run fine, minus an extremely slow rev pace after 4,000 rpms. Will the map sensor conditioner rectify this condition? What is its actual purpose anyways? I originally thought the benefit of running a map sensor on any car is that it could pick up positive manifold pressure and let the ecu know that...

Yes, the point of the MAP sensor, ideally, is that the ECU could respond positively to positive manifold pressure.

In the S2000, however, the positive pressure read by the MAP sensor creates a not-positive result in the ECU. The ESM basically takes the MAP sensor's reading and adjusts the voltage to make the ECU think that it is seeing a maximum of atmospheric pressure (no vac, no boost) instead of boost.

Yeah it won't boost without wiring that in or using a missing link or similar device.

The S2000 ECU doesnt know what to do with boost and goes nuts, its not designed to handle FI

So its a voltage clamp? Can rig one of those up from a trip to radio shack

Probably, but it does seem to pass the voltage that translates into vacuum flawlessly. It just seems to clamp any reading that would indicate boost.

I'm sure you would need some sort of custom or programmable IC to do that, and by the time you have gotten that together, have you really saved money, especially with used ones sorta plentiful and new ones $150?

Yes, it is a voltage clamp for the map sensor signal.
OR you could easily run a Missing Link for about $45. Accomplished the same thing but in a mechanical fashion.

I've heard of problems with the missing link,'which is why comptech went electronic. Any truth to that?

Also I've heard the esm is different between the ap1 and ap2. Are these thing programable? If so, how is it done exactly?

It can be done with two zener diodes, no need for an IC.
