Default Wierd Water Temp gauge issues

I dunno if you guys remember but last year when it got really hot out My water Temp gaige would fluctuate between normal, right down to 1 peg, then also go to Full pegs.

Well the other day after do some WOT runs a few hours later U start the car and go inside to pack, I come out and almost shit myself seeing the Temp gauge full hot, I thought I blew my headgasket and was ready to kill myself when it then immediately went back to full cold, seems to be doing that a lot lately, will show normal, then hot, the full cold, it's strange. I am using the AEM series 2, so I guess its strictly a stock guage problem?

what could be causing this?

do you have serial gauges? check temps on them, or if you dont connect to aem ems and see what that says engine temps are. prolly just some bugs for controlling the temp gauage on the dash. even modifry fix has its issues sometimes. annoying that our temp gauge had to be a big fat pita.

Why not just plug in your laptop and check the water temp via the EMS software?
I monitor and log my engine parameters this way.

That is certainly ideal, but not realistic. I don't keep my laptop in the car 24/7 connected up on the passenger seat, lol.

Yeah, the Series 2 does not need the modifry fix, this same thing happened with my E-Manage, so I think its related to the clusters signal or something, I dunno, it's wierd

Could it possibly be a bad sensor??? I would think that would be the case before wiring, and gauge cluster issues.

I would open up your AEM software at look at what it's reading for coolant temp, and compare it with your gauge cluster when it's acting up.
