Default Won't start when hot, Vortech equipped

Here in texas it's summer.... on several occasions now, I've had problems whereby I've driven somewhere in the sweltering heat (temp gage always stays at mid point)... and parked. If I come back a few minutes later, the engine turns over fine, but not a hint of starting. If I just let her sit for 15-20 minutes, then she cranks right up, and runs as though nothing is wrong.

I DO have a Vortec Supercharger installed, with a piggyback ECU.

Only possible explanation I can come up with is that I'm getting some sort of fuel vapor lock, preventing fuel from getting to the fuel rail...

otherwise, is anyone aware of any other sort of ECU-based fuel or ignition disabling mechanism built in?

Any thoughts?

Could be the fuel pressure regulator. Are you using an aftermarket FPR? Which one?

You need to verify if you have fuel pressure when the engine is not starting 1st. No pressure, (50 psi or so with a vortech) and troubleshoot from there.

If it has pressure, you need to focus your attention on the ignition system.

The Vortech electronics do wire to the crank position sensors, and the car does take longer to start than a stock car. Looking over all the connection to the controller isn't a bad idea.

I'm editing your title to be more descriptive as well, and linking to the FI forum.

Slow- Do you think the Vortechs take longer to fire up because of the FPR?

I had a PnP harness on my timing controller, so I could easily disconnect the controller and go back to stock. I only noticed the slightly longer cranking time with the controller installed.

I've had the Vortech for over 2 years. It doesn't start any different than before.

I'm in Houston and can vouch for you. I've had that problem occur multiple times. I was driving to Houston from Austin in the summer (95+ temps & 100% humidity) and stopped for gas. After fueling up the car, my car exhibited the same problem. It would turn over, but would not start up. I had to wait about 5 minutes before she cranked up. It's very annoying when this happens.

I had read of people dealing with heat soak issues and how the Comptech CAI had alleviated their problems. I bought one and I haven't experienced this problem again during the last 3 years.

The Comptech CAI has also helped out with the "lurching, jerking, bucking" problem that many people on the board blame on bad clutching technique(aka. bad driving).

Good luck!
