I think alot of it has to do with the drivers etc. but, in reality it's a Type R.
Well they DID have Tsuchiya driving the Module Type R instead of the Type S S2000. I wonder what his laptime was when he drove around Tsukaba in the Type S in the Circuit Comparison against the stock S2000. I guess they didn't want him to get beaten in the superior Civics. I dunno if I've ever seen the S2000s break 1:07s on this track and the Mugen RR did it in 1:06.
I wish the Type S / CR was a bigger upgrade.
I hope the S2000 doesn't disappear without getting some good OEM mods first that would help it at least be on par with the new Boxster, 350z, Z4, and TT.

i do agree that the type r is a purpose built car. they advertise the cr as a purpose built car but it is a s2000 with few upgrades and the spair tire removed. i doubt the mugen rr and mondulo civic have much in common with a stock civic. and to put Hittori and Tsuchiya in the civic is also giving the civics an advantage.
the civic's vs. S2K's video was fixed. all you have to do is look at the racing lines they were taking on the track, it looked like they were giving the civics way too much room to pass but to the civic's credit they are very fast...
Even if the video is legit, and the modified Civics are slightly faster (doubt it), they still drive like a FWD car.
I don't care if the Civic is 10 seconds faster than the S around that track, I still wouldn't want to drive a FWD sports coupe. It just isn't fun to me.
