00-01 Soft top conversion.
here's a pic of the strap placement i used on my conversion. the top closes perfectly with no slowing or struggling. some other instructions i saw said to place the new elastic straps over the old (front two bars) straps and put rivets in the same holes. I found this is difficult to do as the rivets don't quite make it all the way in.
i found that drilling and riveting the elastic straps 3/4" to 1" away (toward the center of the car) from the original straps worked surprisingly well. Using this placement seemed to help the top close as well, as the other way didn't allow the top to extend all the way when closing. Be sure to pick up any filings. they tear the hell out of your skin, lol.

Note that the rivets used for the elastic strap were tucked into the bendable bar that holds the soft top flaps.
