Carpe Diem
To start off, I am a firm believer that everyone should dabble in many different activities, hobbies, experiences, etc throughout their life. This way of life offers copious amounts of experience and opportunities to meet and connect with other people while finding things that you like and dislike. I urge you all to try a track day because it is a truly different experience. I met a whole new crowd of car enthusiasts that I didn't really even know existed and learned a lot about driving MY02 at higher speeds than I was used to. I fell in love with this crowd and developed a new respect for the S. I had an amazing time out there and treated the track day like it should be treated, like a learning experience and not a race.
I have owned my S for about 2 years now and I am a poor college student who fantasized about the day that I would get to make it out to a track day as if it was a dream that would only stay a dream. Soon my birthday came around and I had been confiding in my mom that I would like to track my car, but one of the main obstacles was my father. My dad is a great guy and supports me in almost anything that I do. Notice how I said almost. He is constantly disappointed about my fascination with cars and the way I spend my money on my S. At the very mention of my car on a track with other cars he would go on a rant about how I'm going to total my car, end up hitting someone else's car, it's completely not safe, etc etc. Anyway, my mom decided that she would purchase a track day for me for my birthday because she knows how long I've pined after this and gave me the push that I needed to finally DO something about it. She set up a HPDE session for May 26th for me, all that was needed were the supplies to prep my car for a track day. Within a week of being told I was going to my first track day, I had my car up on stands bleeding the brakes, swapping the pads/lines, and changing the oil. Now on to the track day itself.
I woke up to my alarm at 4:30 after only getting 3 hours of sleep due to excitement/that christmas eve feeling. After grabbing my bags and having a snack headed out for Hallett, Oklahoma. I had to be there at 8 for a driver education meeting/inspection
which is why I had to leave so early. I decided to rinse off my car as I was heading out of town and decided to snap a pic or two.

On the road with the sun getting ready to rise.

After an unexpectedly short 2 hour trip I arrived!

Mom FTW! I still remember my first track day...it is quite an experience. I agree you do get a different appreciation of the car and start looking at modifications differently too. Thanks for sharing, made my day hearing about another S getting on the track!

Hopefully your Dad gets more comfortable with the idea.
