Thanks for the encouragement. I am feeling a bit like the boy that cried wolf at this point, but it will be worth it when it is done. But, I damn sure am not going to do another set...
So, here are a couple of pics of them all sanded out. I used 40 grit for hardcore primer removal and I also wanted to make sure the surface has enough "tooth" for the resin to get a good hold on the surface.
Here you can kind of see the seam and some of the remenants of adhesives I was trying to use to hold it together.
I'm BACK! This has been sitting behind my studio taunting me for the last few years and now it is about to be finished.
The fiberglass would not adhere consistantly to the ABS, mabye if I had a vacuum bag it would have done it, but I didnt.
So.....I have split the part of the roll hoops that I sanded in half and am having them cast in aluminum, welded back up, polished and clear anodized. I am going to use the old roll hoop assemblies as patterns and recut another set of rollhoops that I bought (thanks Marks2000) and mount the cast caps on top of the new plastic. I swear, this project turned out to be a total debacle.
Look like metal? I realized that is for punks, they are going to be metal, baby!
