You trying to freehand this...right?
You should be using controled lines and beizer curves.
You should also be setting up vector layers for easy inking.
If you want a freehand look you can adjust the noise on each layer differently. It also helps to use textured brushes with flow and pressure on. It looks like your using the same size stencil tip.. vary the size per applique.
Your putting time into this which is good, and so these things should not hinder only help you.

I know what I am doing in Photoshop and I know what I want an image to look like, if I did what you suggested I promise you it would look absolutely nothing like this.
the best way to get a free hand "look" is to not use controlled lines and noise, the best way is to just do it free hand.
and I just set up a few different size brushes for the color like I would have if I were to use actual paint or watercolor.
Intuos 3 6x11, I got it while i was in Japan and got a pretty good deal on it. The 9x12 is just too huge for me I think, I tried them all out at the store and this 6x11 was the perfect size for me.
The Cintiq's are very very nice too, got to try one of those out while I was there, sooo expensive though, and i need something a little more portable.
I highly recommend getting a Intuos 3 over the Graphire if you can afford it, it is definitely worth the upgrade.
really feels like you are drawing on paper and it just works perfectly.
Wacom is the only way to go

Could you do something like this? I'd love to have a shot of my car done in this manner . . .

critique went well for the Samurai Piece poster, haha. The instructor said if he saw this poster somewhere he would want to steal it, so that is always a good thing
I will keep posting some of the things I am doing for school and car illustrations as well.
