Cobalt owner talks sh#t...
So long story short, ever since I bought my '01 S2k last December, my buddy who I work with has been talking shit about how my car is "rice" and his Cobalt LS with a CAI, open cat, and coilovers (which he bought along with other suspension parts, a total of $3k worth, after I got the S2k because he was trying to get on my level) will beat me in any race. After 10 months of him calling me out in front of everyone at work I finally said f@#k it and told him that we're going to the local 1/8th mile track (he has his CDL so he won't race on the street). The rest is history, and I will show everyone at work these same videos because our coworkers (even those who aren't into cars) were getting interested haha.
My car is completely stock with a clutch that has 120k miles that sometimes slips in first gear, so I was only launching at around 1500-2000 rpm. And just to clear up why he thought he could beat me, he said that our cars make the same amount of torque but he thinks his mods and his "better driving" would get him the win... he didn't even figure out how to launch until the third race.
Sorry about the crappy camera work, my gf isn't the best camerawoman. Plus she was laughing because we were by far the slowest cars on the track that night (and she's used to seeing me out there in the T/A running low-mid 8s
)

So after beating him by 1-1.5 seconds (~ 3-5 car lengths) each race I figured he'd finally stfu, but now he's saying he'd still beat me on a road course. After I replace my clutch I guess I'll have to go out to the other track and shut him down there too.
Also, I gotta admit I'm kinda impressed with the S2k. With a new clutch (I'm thinking about the Exedy clutch kit, if anyone obects to this kit please explain why I don't wanna buy a crappy clutch) I could easily get the car into the high 9s in the 1/8. Which is pretty good considering that my brothers stock LS1 Camaro runs high 8s.

I remember a while back I was reading some comments on a youtube video of a Cobalt SS vs an s2000 and someone said the SS did 17 seconds faster on the ring than the s2000 and it seems to be true....wtf is up with that
The suspension on an SS is a hell of a lot better than the one on an LS. The LS doesn't have IRS and its got rear drums. And a cobalt SS makes more power (I wanna say around 250hp/ 250tq). My guess is that the s2k will still out handle an SS but the SS will pull away on the straights. Maybe it's just me, but i feel like with more hp and a lot more tq, a 17 second gap around the 'ring is almost embarrassing for the cobalt. Or maybe it's just a testament to how well our cars can hold their own in a curve?

Oh wait I mean't the cobalt doesn't stand a chance on a road course.
