What I'm wondering though is, how do some photographers manage to get amazing night shots of cars racing on the track with no blur at all (besides the background)? Does the lens they're using have some sort of image stabilization?

They use an expensive lens. One that has a low F-stop. The lower the F-stop (say F2.8) the faster the shutter speed they can use in low light conditions. And yes some do have IS and obviously tripods.

Ohhh.. i see i see. I've always wanted to clear that up.

Sometimes I like to pretend like I have an SLR camera by blurring the background

This was with a Canon A70

Actually that's a whole 'nother technique. It's called Depth Of Field. It's complicated. www.dpreview.com explains it easier than I could here

You don't necessarily need a great lens to take shots like that (the motion ones I mean)... the 20D has a focus mode for taking moving shots, so you just track the subject you want press the shutter and it will try to focus on the moving object.. Here's an example.. This isn't exactly a night shot, but its an indoor shot taken with the Canon 20D and the cheap kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm).

You have to remember too that not every shot comes out perfectly. I probably took about 20 shots just like this one and only maybe 8 shots came out to be usable.

So many people out there think that if you go out and buy the best cam out, that it automatically means youll take awesome shots, but its not true. It takes alot of practice, and alot of learning. Ive seen so many people go out and buy 20d's and 10's and etc cause they see people take nice shots with them, but then their shots turn out poor and they think its cause of the cam
