EDM AP2 Rear Fog Light Conversion Complete
so i got bored today ... as most of you know i change my car color like i change my wardrobe (went from new formula red to telesto gray to blue cepheus and will be in the shop in another couple weeks to receive a porsche gt3rs signal green paint job). anyway, being i'm changing up my look once again for summer '13 decided to incorporate that of an EDM AP2 rear fog light into my car. this mod was fairly simple and cost less than $30; time wise it took about two hours.
given my car is an '08 have a defroster switch (i believe anything after '06 comes with one) which i don't use as i have a hardtop, i took out my soft top too rendering such inoperable. i was tired of seeing such a switch and would frequently click it on and off while traveling down the road just to make sure it still worked until last night it hit me ... i have to use this switch as nothing irritates me more than useless pieces due to the "mod bug".
i sat down and drew out a quick wiring diagram, i figured if i use the stock defroster wire i'd only have power running to that light when i wanted (most cars nowadays have one reverse light on the passenger side anyway). first, i took out my driver side tail light and baked it (225 degrees and in the oven for 30 minutes for a total of two sittings (15min each)). once i had the tail light apart i was able to pop out the clear reverse lens (i figured this would be the case as in europe such is replaced w/ a red lens) such is cheaper for honda to have interchangeable parts instead of different tail lights. second, i went to my car and started the wiring (after popping all interior panels off etc), ran a wire from the positive on my defroster to the positive on my driver side reverse bulb (i cut the original positive from the reverse bulb and tied it off), the ground i left as a ground's a ground. third, i'll BE taking the reverse lens to my friend's shop tomorrow (who does all my resprays) and have him paint it clear red (clear coat w/ red mixed into it) and the final product? a rear fog light which utilizes the stock defroster switch
pictures can be found below as well as a photo shop w/ my new color (original picture was from when my car was gray w/ old wheel setup which i'm going back to this summer). let me know what you guys think!
