Fake!
Well there is a big difference between a replica and a "kit car".
Kit cars are usually fantasy cars (think Sterling) - that have no real merit other than their unusual looks. Also, I put poorley designed/built "replicas" in this category (think your usual shoddy Murcielago/Countach/Testarossa/etc).

Even if they're built on credible platforms... there are some disasters out there.

Now, all that mess aside - there are some really, really, really great replicas out there - some built on other platforms (MR2, Fiero, Corvette), some built on custom tube frames. My personal favorites are ones that pay homage to cars that are attainable only to a very few (think Porsche 550, Shelby Cobra, 300SL, Jaguar C Type, etc.)
Most are spot on when it comes to the size, specs and the performance usually trumps the originals.
Vintage Jag's C Type:

550

Cobra:

And for the modern stuff - Im on the fence. It can run 80-100K for a good quality turn key Diablo with smallblock Chevy power. At that price range you are looking at a real early model Diablo - but then of course, they are costly to maintain/insure/own. Some of these are quite good, especially the tube frame cars, and parts are easy to come by/replicate (the real 1999+ Diablo uses Nissan 300ZX headlights with a strip of carbon fiber along the top to cover the Nissan badging
).
The most recent one that absolutely blew me away was Extremes Murcielago.

I would like to own a Murcielago for its performance, style and pedigree, not just its crazy looks - so it doesn't do much for me - but for the wannabe baller/guido/club kid that never grew up - I could see this as a perfect match.

With all the money these people spend on making their cars look like something it's not, they could of use the money to purchase the real thing.
