Default Fire in Korea

Hey, so last night one of Korea's oldest monuments burned down, mostly. Probably arson. It is right down the street from my house. So when I first got my car shipped to Korea I took it down there and took pics of it.

Here's my favorite.

I wouldn't worry about the gate, I can't tell you how many times it has been restored.

there's something about korean restorations that make it look fake after it's all restored. but it is quite a site to see an old building in the middle of a modern city.

here's a couple from january..

omfg, that burned down... i remember driving by that all the time as a kid when i was in korea. its in the middle of a giant roundabout in the city. the juxtaposition of the old monument and the surrounding city is cool. i cant believe that is burned down...

looks like this now-

http://kjdaily.com/read.php3?aid=1202742000104065m1

it will be rebuilt.
almost all of the monuments and historic landmarks in seoul are all restored, rebuilt, altered or moved anyway.
in fact, korean traditional cloths, dances or music are all "restored" that nobody now knows how they originally looked or sounded like.
wars, colonization and dictatorships made it very hard throughout the history.
